Instructor: Andrew Dowd
This introductory class is perfect for anyone interested in getting started in woodworking. In this 3 day class we will build a maple and walnut cutting board from scratch (approx 12"x16"), and you will learn several fundamental woodworking techniques. We will cover the proper, safe use of the jointer, planer and drum sander (A $40 Value!). Course fee includes all materials.
Starting with milled strips we will learn how to glue up our boards in an alternating maple and walnut pattern. We will then learn how to use the drum sander to flatten and smooth our glued up board in preparation for final sanding.
Day 2 will begin with a safety session on the drum sander. We will then trim our boards to final size, and cut them into strips to create the end grain board pattern. .
Day 3 Students will be drum sanding their boards and doing the final sanding and finish application on their end grain cutting boards. Food safe finishing options will be discussed.
This class is great for anyone looking to get started in woodworking, no tools or prior experience necessary.
